Going Deeper Questions
Read Psalm 8. This Psalm says humanity was crowned with glory and honor, yet Hebrews 2:8b admits we don’t see that fully realized. Where do you most clearly see the effects of humanity’s failure—personally or globally—and how does Jesus as the “representative man” give you hope? (See Hebrews 2:9) Read Romans 8:20–22
Hebrews 2:9 says, “But we do see Jesus…” even when everything is not yet subjected to Him. What current chaos or disorder in your life makes it hard to see Jesus reigning—and how can faith help you “see Him” through that difficulty? Read 2 Corinthians 5:7
Jesus was made “lower than the angels for a short time” (put on flesh) in order to suffer and die. How will you follow the example of Jesus this week? Be specific. Read Philippians 2:5–11; Isaiah 53:4-6; John 1:14
Jesus is called the “pioneer” of our salvation, made perfect through suffering. How does knowing Jesus suffered first reshape the way you view suffering in your own walk with Christ? Read Hebrews 2:10; 1 Peter 4:12–13
God’s goal is not merely to rescue us from judgment but to bring sons and daughters to glory (Hebrews 2:10). Compare this to what happened in Exodus. Read Romans 8:18; Exodus 19:4
Hebrews says Jesus is “not ashamed” to call believers brothers and sisters (Hebrews 2:11). What does this mean for Christians? What has God done for us? How will you respond today? Read Romans 8:16–17; 1 John 3:1
In Hebrews 2:13 Jesus is trusting God the Father. Where are you currently being asked to trust God without immediate clarity or relief, and how does Jesus’ example encourage you? Read Isaiah 8:17; Psalm 22:24
Jesus’ death destroys the power of the devil and frees us from lifelong fear of death! How does fear—especially fear of death, loss, or the future—still influence your decisions, and how does Christ’s victory speak into that fear? What will you do to respond to what God has done for you in Christ? Read Hebrews 2:14–15; 1 Corinthians 15:54–57
Jesus helps Abraham’s offspring—not angels—showing His salvation is personal and covenantal (see Hebrews 2:16). How does it encourage you to know that Jesus’ victory and help are intentionally directed toward His people? Read Isaiah 41:8–10; Galatians 3:29
Jesus became like us “in every way” to make atonement for our sins. In what ways did Jesus become like us? When you sin or fail, do you tend to hide from God or draw near to Him—and how does Jesus as your High Priest invite a different response? Read Hebrews 4:15–16; Titus 3:5–7
Jesus suffered when tempted and is able to help those who are tempted now. What specific temptation are you facing this season, and what would it look like to actively seek Jesus’ help instead of relying on your willpower alone? Read Hebrews 2:18; 1 Corinthians 10:13
