Going Deeper Questions

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-25. What do we learn about the message of the cross? What effect does it have? How should we view the preaching of the gospel?

  2. How do you respond when God’s Word confronts something in your life that you don’t want to change?Read 2 Timothy 4:2-4. Are you more likely to welcome correction or look for teaching that confirms what you already believe and want to hear?

  3. Is your view of preaching more about what the preacher says or about what God says through His Word?Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and Hebrews 4:12. How should these passages change the way you listen to a sermon each Sunday or online?

  4. What is one truth from God’s Word that you need to allow to “pierce” your heart today? Read Hebrews 4:12. What thought, attitude, habit, or intention is God exposing in you?

  5. If every Christian is called to proclaim the gospel, who has God placed in your life who needs to hear about Jesus?Read 1 Peter 2:9 and 2 Corinthians 5:20. Write down one specific person you could intentionally pray for and begin gospel conversations.

  6. What keeps you from speaking openly about Jesus with others?Read Romans 10:14-15, 17. Is it fear, uncertainty, busyness, lack of opportunity, or something else? What would it look like to take one step of obedience this week?

  7. Read Psalm 42:5, 11. Are you primarily listening to yourself or preaching truth to yourself? What biblical truth do you need to speak to your own soul today?

  8. Read Romans 8:1-2, Philippians 4:6, Psalm 46:1-2, and Psalm 73:26. Personalize these as messages to your own soul. What does your soul need to hear from God today?How could memorizing and regularly speaking that truth change the way you respond to difficult circumstances? 

  9. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18. What should change in your Monday–Saturday life because of what you hear on Sunday?

  10. Who is someone in your life whom you need to intentionally care for spiritually?Read 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 and Hebrews 3:13. Do you need to warn someone, encourage someone, help someone who is weak, forgive someone, or simply be more patient with someone? What specific action will you take?
