Going Deeper
- What songs have you read in the Bible? Why are songs important?
- When Israel had become a nation in the Promised Land and their kings failed to obey God’s Word, God sent them into exile in Babylon. But by God’s grace, he brought them back to the Promised Land. R. Kent Hughes says: “When the Israelites came home from exile, they went singing on their way, as Isaiah prophesied: ‘The ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing’ (Isa. 51:11a; cf. Isa. 44:23).”
- Read Ps. 106:6-12. What is this Psalm pointing to? What do we learn from this Psalm?
- Read Psalm 98. What does this Psalm tell us to do? Will you do it?
- Read Col. 3:16. When we gather what should we do?
- The Lord is a warrior (v. 3-5). Desmond Alexander: “He is a God willing to fight against the forces of evil and tyranny.”
- The Lord is glorious in his wrath (v. 6-10). Jonathan Edwards: “The punishment of ungodly men…is to show the whole universe the glory of God’s power.”
- Read v. 11. How is the Lord incomparable? How do you see this in your life?
- Desmond Alexander says: “[Exodus] is about the establishment of a harmonious relationship between God and those redeemed from bondage to evil…Gratitude for divine salvation should be the natural response of all of God’s people. If the Israelites are exuberant in their praise of God,
Christians have even more reason to rejoice in Christ’s victory over Satan and the powers of evil.” How do you express your thanks to God for all He has done and all He will do? - The Lord will lead Israel (v. 13). How is He leading your life?
- Read v. 17-18. What is God planning to do with Israel? Why is this so important? How does it matter for our lives today?
- How are you celebrating God’s greatness in your life every day (v. 20-21)? Be specific.
