  2. Simeon remained “righteous and devout” during a spiritually dark time (Luke 2:25). Read Luke 1:5-6. How are Zechariah and Elizabeth described? Why was this important for Luke to mention? Who would you consider righteous and devout in your life? How could you be a person like that to others?
  3. The Holy Spirit guided Simeon’s life and decisions (Luke 2:25–27). How does Ephesians 5:18 reshape your understanding of being “filled” or controlled by the Spirit? How will you allow the Holy Spirit lead you this week?

  5. Simeon responds to God’s fulfilled promise with praise (see Luke 2:28–29). Is worship your joy, or does it feel more like obligation? Why?
  6. Simeon declares, “My eyes have seen your salvation” (Luke 2:30). Have you personally trusted Jesus as your Savior, or are you relying on your own goodness? How do Ephesians 2:1–3 and 2 Corinthians 5:21 clarify our need for salvation?
  7. Jesus is a light for both Jews and Gentiles (Luke 2:31–32; Isaiah 42:6). Are there people or groups you find it difficult to believe God wants to save? Read Acts 10:9-48. How does Peter’s experience challenge any barriers or prejudices in your heart?
  8. Joseph and Mary were amazed at what was said about Jesus (Luke 2:33). When was the last time you were truly amazed by what Jesus has done for you? How can reflecting on the gospel daily rekindle awe and gratitude (read Psalm 103:1–5)?
  9. Mary is told her soul will be pierced, launching her into a season of painful waiting (Luke 2:35). How do you usually respond when God allows suffering without immediate explanation? What does Psalm 130:5–6 teach about waiting with hope in God’s Word?
  10. Believers are called to look to Jesus in suffering and endurance (Hebrews 4:15–16; 12:1–2). What distractions tend to pull your eyes away from Jesus during seasons of waiting? How can regularly approaching Jesus in prayer and Scripture help you endure with hope this Christmas season?
