Going Deeper Questions

  1. In your own words, why should we follow the Son of God?

  2. In 1 Cor. 11:1 the Apostle Paul says, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (NIV) Why do you think Paul says this to the church in Corinth?

  3.  Read John 8:12. What does Jesus say? Why is it necessary to follow him? What does it

look like to walk in the light according to Ephesians 5:8-14? How will you apply this

    today?

  4. Isaiah says that “we all went astray like sheep” (Isaiah 53:6). Where do you see

yourself most vulnerable to wandering from God—through culture, friendships, media,

personal desires, or fear of others’ opinions? How will you better listen for the voice of

the Good Shepherd? Read John 10:11–16, 27

  5. The disciples left their nets, tax booth, and old ambitions to follow Jesus (see

Matthew 4:19–20; 9:9). How should following Christ reshape the way you view your job,

schoolwork, ministry, or daily responsibilities? Read Colossians 3:23-24

  6. Read Mark 10:17-22. What did the “Rich Young Ruler” ask? What did Jesus tell him

in the end? Why did he walk away sad? What do you trust for your security? How does

following Jesus change how you look at money, relationships or success?

  7. Read Matthew 16:24. What is required to follow the Son of God? In what ways do

you need to pick up your cross this week to follow Jesus (follow Him into suffering)?

  8. How does following Jesus into suffering challenge the idea that Christianity is all

about comfort, success, or convenience? Read Matthew 16:24–26; 1 Peter 4:12–16

  9. Read Luke 9:57-62. What is Jesus’ warning? What is required for us to follow him?

How will you apply this to your life this week? Read Philippians 3:12-14

  10. Read Luke 14:25-27. Does Jesus really think we should hate our family? What is

Jesus’ point and how does it describe where our loyalties should lie?

  11. Read Galatians 2:20. What does this mean for your daily life?

  12. Read Romans 6:1-14. What sinful habits will you put to death this week in order to

faithfully follow the Son of God?

  13. Read Mark 8:35. What is Jesus’ point and how does it relate to following him? How

have you experienced the paradox that surrendering your life to Christ actually leads to

greater joy, freedom, and purpose? Where is God calling you to surrender more fully to

Him today? Read Philippians 1:20-21; 2 Cor. 5:14-17
