Going Deeper Questions

  1. What “alarm bells” from the Holy Spirit have you been ignoring lately? Where is the

Spirit calling you to repent, confess, apologize, or change direction?

    Read: Ephesians 4:30; Hebrews 3:12-15

  2. What is currently shaping your mindset more: the Spirit or the flesh? What is your

mind set on? What practical changes will help you “set your mind on things above”?

    Read: Colossians 3:1-3; Philippians 4:8

  3. In what area of your life do you most feel the battle between flesh and Spirit? Paul

described the inner struggle between sinful desires and the desires of the Spirit (see

Romans 7:15-25). Where do you most need daily dependence on God right now?

    Read: Romans 7:15-25; Galatians 5:16-17

  4. How are you using your body: as a “weapon for righteousness or unrighteousness”?

Consider your eyes, speech, habits, entertainment, energy, and time. What would it

look like to glorify God with your body this week?

    Read: Romans 6:12-13; 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

  5. Which “work of the flesh” in Galatians 5 most threatens your walk with Christ? Is it

anger, jealousy, selfish ambition, envy, impurity, drunkenness, division, or something

else? What steps of repentance and accountability do you need to take this week?

    Read: Galatians 5:19-21; James 5:16

  6. Which aspect of the fruit of the Spirit is hardest for you right now? (Love, Joy,

Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control) Ask God why

this area is difficult and how He may want to grow you through it.

    Read: Galatians 5:22-23; John 15:4-5

  7. Are your values becoming more like the world’s values or more like Christ’s values?

The Spirit gives Christians a different standard of values. How do your priorities with

money, relationships, success or serving others reveal what you truly treasure?

    Read: Matthew 6:19-24; Romans 12:1-2

  8. Who in your life benefits from the Spirit’s work in you? The Spirit produces fruit and

gives gifts for the good of others. How is your spiritual growth helping your spouse,

children, church, coworkers, friends, or neighbors?

    Read: 1 Peter 4:10-11; Ephesians 4:1-3

  9. What would “keeping in step with the Spirit” look like in one specific situation this

week? Think about a difficult conversation, temptation, conflict, parenting moment,

decision, or opportunity to serve. What would obedience to the Spirit practically

    require?

    Read: Micah 6:8; Galatians 5:25
